CHURCH BUILDING
Saint Andrew’s Church
Jerusalem
A brief history
Dedicated on Saint Andrew’s Day in 1930, the Scots Memorial Church was established to remember Scottish soldiers who died in the First World War’s Palestine campaign. Its foundation stone was laid in 1927. The church and accompanying hospice served worshippers and visiting pilgrims.
An interesting detail
The architects combined international design with local architectural features, including Armenian ceramics, giving this Scottish memorial details rooted in Jerusalem’s artistic culture.
