History: Virgin Mary's Well Greek Orthodox Church
This Greek Orthodox church stands at the Virgin Mary's Well in Beit Sahour's old town. The local parish connects the building's origin with a 1969 account of a Greek woman's recovery, understood by believers as a miracle. Local tradition also links the well with Mary during the Holy Family's flight to Egypt. These devotional accounts do not establish the well's ancient date or an exact completion year for the present church.
An interesting detail
The parish describes the associated well as mostly cut into rock, approximately 27 metres long, 4 metres wide and 9 metres high, with a masonry section at its northern top.
