History: Holy Forefathers Greek Orthodox Church

The Holy Forefathers parish records its first church in Beit Sahour in 1895, during the patriarchate of Gerasimos. After earthquake damage, it was rebuilt in 1952 under Patriarch Timothy I. Its dedication honours the righteous ancestors of the Old Testament, including Abraham. This town-centre parish church is distinct from the churches at the nearby Shepherds' Fields and from the Virgin Mary's Well church.

An interesting detail

The Patriarchate describes a stone iconostasis and stone canopy over the altar here, while the sanctuary doors are carved from wood.
