History: Our Lady of the Fortress, Ehden
Saydet el Hosn crowns Mount Sayde above Ehden. The sanctuary combines an older church, restored on several occasions, with a new church built in 1989 and surmounted by a large statue of the Virgin Mary. Local historical accounts remember the hill as a refuge during invasions and a defensive point for the town. The older sanctuary underwent another restoration in 1995, preserving its place beside the modern church.
An interesting detail
The name Saydet el Hosn means Our Lady of the Fortress, recalling the hill’s defensive role.
