History: Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Aqaba
Saint Nicholas serves Aqaba’s Greek Orthodox community under the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. The Patriarchate attributes the church’s construction to Patriarch Diodoros. Its complex includes a school, events hall and priest’s residence. Patriarch Theophilos III celebrated the Divine Liturgy here on 7 December 2014.
An interesting detail
The modern Orthodox church is distinct from Aqaba’s excavated early Christian church and the Latin Stella Maris church.
