A brief history
An Anglican church in the Abbasabad neighbourhood of Isfahan, next to the Isa Bin Maryam Hospital. The hospital explains the church: the Church Missionary Society established its Iranian mission station at Julfa in Isfahan in 1869 under the Reverend Robert Bruce, and Dr Donald Carr founded and designed the men's and women's hospital there. Isfahan's other churches are Armenian Apostolic, several of them within a few streets of this one; Saint Luke belongs to a different church, the Anglican Diocese of Iran, which was created in 1912 as the Diocese of Persia.

The hospital next door is named for Isa bin Maryam — Jesus son of Mary, the Quranic name — on a Christian mission's building in a Muslim city.
