A brief history

Pope Shenouda III’s history records that Alexandria’s Coptic cathedral was rebuilt in the twentieth century and consecrated by Pope Yusab II on 9 November 1952, replacing an earlier nineteenth-century church.

An interesting detail

Tombs of earlier Coptic patriarchs lie beneath the church; a Saint Mark shrine leading toward them was prepared in 1968.
