A brief history
The parish keeps its own founding date, and it is precise. In the late 1950s Catholics began gathering in Salmiya after the Indian School of Kuwait opened in May 1959, and getting to the cathedral in Kuwait City for Sunday Mass was hard. At the request of a parishioner, Archie Menezes, Bishop Stella celebrated the first Mass in Salmiya at the Menezes house on Tuesday 3 November 1959, for about forty people. A rented villa served as a chapel from 1970, and the present premises were taken in January 1974 and dedicated as the Holy Redeemer Chapel that February.

Registration is by address: the parish takes members from Salmiya, Messila, Ras Salmiya, Salwa, Rumaithiya, Maidan Hawally, Sabah Al Salem, Mishref and Bayan, and sends everyone else to their own parish.
