CHURCH BUILDING

Church of the Multiplication

Tabgha

A brief history

Dedicated in 1982, the modern church follows the foundations of a Byzantine predecessor and protects its ancient mosaics. It commemorates Jesus feeding the multitude with bread and fish. The association with this precise location belongs to the Christian pilgrimage tradition of Tabgha.

An interesting detail

The celebrated bread-basket and fish mosaic is only part of the ancient floor: other panels depict birds, plants and geometric patterns.

Bible connections

Mark 6:30–44
