A brief history
Known also as the Cathedral of Mar Yousif, this is the Chaldean Catholic cathedral and the seat of the Chaldean Catholic Archdiocese of Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan, an archdiocese created under Pope Paul VI. Named for Saint Joseph, it follows the East Syriac or Chaldean Rite.
Saints & traditions
Ankawa, the district around the cathedral, is one of the largest Christian-majority towns in Iraq and became a refuge for families displaced from the Nineveh Plains.
