A brief history
Mart Meskinta is a historic Chaldean Catholic church in Mosul. It dates originally from the twelfth century and was substantially renovated in 1851. After a sixteenth-century schism within the Church of the East it became Chaldean Catholic. It was damaged in 2008 during the Iraq War and again between 2014 and 2017 in the war against the Islamic State.
Saints & traditions
It is the only church in Iraq named after Meskinta, a woman remembered as a martyr for teaching children Christianity under the Sasanian shah Yazdegerd II.
