A brief history
This Byzantine church was built under Emperor Leo VI in the ninth century and restored in the seventeenth. It belongs to the Orthodox Church of Cyprus.
Saints & traditions
Local tradition identifies the crypt as Lazarus’s second tomb and remembers him as the first bishop of Kition.
Bible connections
John 11 places the resurrection in Bethany; the Cyprus connection is later tradition.
