A brief history
Saint Francis served as Aden’s Catholic cathedral before the episcopal seat moved to Abu Dhabi in 1974. Bishop Martinelli reported severe war damage in May 2026; the vicariate lists the parish as closed.
An interesting detail
Despite the damage, it was included in the 2026 Franciscan Jubilee as a reminder to pray for peace in Yemen.
